Uninstalling

Remove HF Panel and everything it set up on the server — hosting accounts, websites, databases, mail, software and data — with one command.

One command removes HF Panel and everything it set up on the server. Run it as root:

bash
sudo hf-agent uninstall

It removes:

  • every hosting account: websites, databases, mailboxes, DNS zones and backups
  • all database files (MariaDB, PostgreSQL with the MongoDB databases, Redis), all mail, every SSL certificate and all logs
  • the server software (web, PHP, mail, database, DNS, FTP, fail2ban, certbot) and HF Panel's own tools and command
  • the package sources HF Panel added, the swap file made by Server health, and the firewall rules; only SSH stays open
  • earlier uninstall copies (/root/hostfog-uninstall-*.tar.gz)

Warning: this deletes every customer's websites, mailboxes and databases, and nothing is saved except the SSL certificates archive (below). It can't be undone. Copy your backups off the server first (off-server copies in your own cloud storage are not touched). Use it only on a server that runs nothing but HF Panel.

It shows what will go and asks you to type DELETE EVERYTHING to confirm.

The SSL certificates archive

Let's Encrypt issues at most 5 certificates a week for the same names, so installing again after an uninstall must not ask for every certificate anew. The uninstall therefore keeps one file: /root/hostfog-certificates.tgz (readable by root only) with the Let's Encrypt certificates, account and renewal settings. Its last lines say so: "Kept your SSL certificates in /root/hostfog-certificates.tgz so a reinstall doesn't ask Let's Encrypt again; delete it if you don't reinstall."

The next installation puts the certificates back before it asks for any, uses the ones that are still valid, and deletes the file. If you don't install HF Panel again, delete it yourself:

bash
sudo rm /root/hostfog-certificates.tgz

Options

Option What it does
--yes don't ask Continue? (for scripts); DELETE EVERYTHING must still be typed
--help show what it removes

Remove one app instead

Apps installed with the App installer (WordPress and others) can each be removed from the customer's Control Panel under Websites › Apps, which deletes their files and database.

Installing again later

After the uninstall, the server is ready for a fresh installation: the last line of the uninstall says Ready for a fresh installation when the package system and its sources are in order. If it lists something to fix first, fix that and run the install command. It reuses the kept SSL certificates. The installer also repairs the usual leftovers by itself — see When something stops the installation.
