Docker
Run Redis, PostgreSQL, Mailpit and other tools in Docker containers from HF Local, and start, stop and read the logs of your containers.
The Docker page lists your Docker containers and images and runs common development tools with one click. HF Local doesn't install Docker itself.
Where: HF Local › Docker
Docker must be installed
HF Local looks for Docker when the page opens.
- Docker isn't installed: the page says so and shows Get Docker, which opens Docker's download page. Install Docker, then come back.
- Docker isn't running: start Docker Desktop (or the docker service) and click Refresh.
When Docker is ready, the top of the page shows its version. The page refreshes by itself every few seconds.
Containers
Every container on your computer is listed with its image, status and ports. Containers started by HF Local are marked HF Local.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Open | opens the app's web page in your browser (shown for apps that have one) |
| Start | starts a stopped container |
| Stop | stops a running container |
| Restart | restarts a running container |
| Logs | shows the last 200 lines of the container's output; Reload fetches them again |
| Trash can | removes the container after you confirm |
Note: removing a container deletes it, but data in its named volumes is kept.
Run an app
Under Run an app, click Run next to a tool:
Redis, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, phpMyAdmin, Adminer, Mailpit, MinIO, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Memcached, n8n and Uptime Kuma.
- Click Run next to the app. Each row shows its image and a short note, such as the login to use.
- Change the Name if you want (the container is called
hf-and the name) and the Port on this computer. Apps with a second port, such as Mailpit's SMTP, show it too. - Click Run.
The first run downloads the image, which can take a while. The ports are open on this computer only (127.0.0.1),
so other devices on your network can't reach them. Ports must be from 1024 to 65535 and different from each other.
The default ports avoid your own servers: PostgreSQL uses 5433 and MySQL 3307, for example.
Data is kept in a named volume (hf-name-data), so it survives a restart or a removal of the container.
Tip: Elasticsearch and OpenSearch need about 2 GB of memory. OpenSearch is what Magento needs to finish its setup.
Docker Compose
A site in htdocs with a Compose file (docker-compose.yml) is listed with a compose label. Up starts its
containers; Down stops and removes them.
Images
Images lists the images downloaded to your computer with their size and age. The trash can removes one after you confirm; it is downloaded again the next time it is needed.
